The ABC Young Performers Awards (YPA) has long been regarded as Australia's premier national artist development programme for young Australian musicians, instrumentalists and performing artists.
Since its inception in 1944, and over its 72-year history the YPA has been presented in many formats. For nearly 20 years Symphony Australia has presented the YPA in collaboration with the national broadcaster, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).
In 2001 MOST® was appointed to manage the Vocal Segment of the Instrumental and Vocal Competition (the ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards).
In April 2016 the ABC and Symphony Services International (Symphony Australia) selected MOST® to take carriage of the ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards (YPA). The ABC will be the Broadcast Partner promoting the next generation of Australia’s best musicians, instrumentalists and performing artists. YPA will remain a national competition and will be presented in many states around Australia.
With a long history in developing and managing programmes in the the classical music arena, MOST® looks forward presenting this prestigious artist development programme and competition. The ongoing partnerships with the ABC and ABC Classic FM will ensure the continuing promotion and development of the next generation of Australia's best musical talent.
“Australia’s symphony orchestras have had a long and proud history of involvement in the competition and feel it is fitting that the Music and Opera Singers Trust take over the management of these Awards because they already manage a prestigious set of competitions for musicians and opera singers. Just like Symphony Australia, MOST’s raison d’être is to promote excellence in the arts and music and to manage programs that recognise and develop creative potential.” Kate Lidbetter, CEO of Symphony Australia.
“We know MOST will do a great job in ensuring that the ABC Young Performers Awards continue to flourish and grow as well as playing a vital role in supporting the career development of the Finalists.” ABC Classic FM Manager, Richard Buckham.
MOST® currently plans to present the YPA biennially. The format is being assessed and planning is being implemented to present the next YPA programme. An Advisory Committee has been established to develop a new model for the YPA to continue to meet the needs of artists, relevant professional communities and the general public.
